A man walks his dog, and overhears laughter at an outdoor garden party nearby, just as a roadster quietly speeds along the drive to the ocean. The paintings intertwine to tell a story.
Derek Daniel Reformat was born in Buffalo, NY in 1983 and came to New York in 2005 to study medicine at New York University (NYU) School of Medicine. He currently resides Boston, where he practices general adult reconstructive and cosmetic plastic surgery at Longwood Plastic Surgery. Influenced by the iconic architecture and fashion of New York City and Boston, the hedges and landscapes along the Atlantic Coast, and the nostalgic imagery of the early 20th century conjured by historical fiction of that time period, the paintings and illustrations by DDR provide an opportunity to immerse yourself in a time that might be viewed as much different than today; one of class, simplicity and living always in the moment. With reliance on black and white, firm lines, bold contrast, and the prudent use of bright simple color as an accent, DDR provides us with intriguing and simple portraits and cityscapes to invoke feelings of nostalgia and bliss in pieces that on first-glance might otherwise seem noir-esque.
